Scary stuff popping up in New Hampshire early this afternoon as news of a hostage situation at a local Hillary office in Rochester, NH came across the wires. No matter what your political views, this was bad news and something you never want to hear about. Thankfully, the two Hillary staffers held by an apparently notorious deranged local man have been released. Negotiations still continue with the man, who is claiming to have a large bomb strapped to his chest. Local law enforcement are skeptical of that claim, as the guy is apparently known in Rochester for making bizarre accusations and scenes in public.

Hillary herself was in the D.c. area preparing to deliver remarks to a gathering of the DNC. Those plans were obviously scrubbed as news of the crisis leaked out. Wonder if the other Democratic candidates had planned any anti-Hillary zingers for their speeches…

What is a little disgusting is the chatter emanating from the blogosphere, as right and left wing partisans try to make the situation into something that could be mined for ideological connotations. You know, the usual stuff: the dude was a crazed conservative militant wanting to blow up HRC, or else he was a Hillary plant trying to dredge up some widespread sympathy for her. This stuff is far from surprising, but it would be great if at least the editors/handlers of some blogs would cut it out. Wacko commenters will always come out of the woodwork with these stories, but folks in charge should know better.

UPDATE… The stand-off at Hillary’s Rochester, NH campaign office has apparently ended with the deranged guy in custody and no damage or injuries. Good news.
