No question that Obama can claim a sizable victory in the South Carolina primary. Amidst rancorous jabs with the Clintons and plenty of worries that he would be a “blacks only” candidate, Obama showed great ability in cobbling together an odd coalition of those coveted African American voters as well as enough anti-Hillary whites to mute most concerns about a racially divided campaign. Obama 55%
Clinton 27%
Edwards 18%

With both Bill and Hillary out of the state, Obama’s victory speech became the biggest show in town. All eyes were turned on the winner as he tried to sum up his win and verbally chastised the nameless Clintons for their belief that “…it’s acceptable to say anything and do anything to win an election.”
