McCain gets Schwarzenegger…

…and Rick Perry - a Giuliani vet. But Ahnold is the big catch in a state where it’s super-important to get big names and big publicity on board. The mainstream/moderate wing of the GOP appears to be forming ranks behind McCain. He’s the frontrunner and supposed nominee. How can Romney’s cash beat this?

The California Governator gave McCain his support after a tour of a solar energy company - just the kind of technology and policy that the two moderate Republicans agree 100% on.

Ahnold spoke glowingly of JMac (with Rudy Giuliani flanking both men)…

Calif. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger officially endorsed Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain on Thursday, saying the senator from Arizona “is a fantastic outstanding public servant” and “a great American hero and an extraordinary leader.”“Talking about a great future, this is the very reason why I am endorsing Sen. McCain to be the next president of the United States,” Schwarzenegger said. “He has shown again and again he is reaching across the aisle to get things done.”

Like Rudy’s support, this won’t help with the conservative crowd who utterly despise him. But how can the endorsement of the popular, bipartisan, get-things-done governor of the biggest Super Tuesday catch be a bad thing? Schwarzenegger adds to the trend of a McCain nomination…

UPDATE — THe full statement of Governor Schwarzenegger is below…

“I am endorsing Senator McCain to be the next President of the United States because I am interested in a great future and I think Senator McCain has proven over and over again that he can reach across the aisle to get things done,” said Governor Schwarzenegger. “He has also crusaded to end wasteful spending in Washington, which is so important. And John McCain is a crusader with a great vision for protecting the environment, while simultaneously protecting the economy. He has incredible credentials on national security and, of course, he is a fantastic public servant. He is a great American hero and an extraordinary leader.”
