The big numbers from the poll:

Obama 51 - McCain 44

Hillary 49 - McCain 46

The second half - and juiciest portion - of the ABC/Washingoton Post poll discussed earlier has been released. It brings us some intriguing numbers on who thinks Hillary should stay in the race, which Dems would vote for McCain, and the latest matchup numbers against McCain. That’s the biggest surprise.

After weeks of posting better numbers against McCain than the troubled Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee has reclaimed an impressive lead over JMac, beating him 51 to 44. Hillary beats the GOP nominee 49 to 46. That’s a large drop for HRC after a long period of strong leads over McCain, which gave her an extra boost in arguing for her candidacy and a reason to stay in the race.

The two biggest factors in this movement are Democrats embracing Obama’s inevitability and most Americans deciding to give him the benefit of the doubt on recent controversies like Rev. Wright.

The poll especially indicates the latter, with nearly 60% saying Obama has done “the right amount” to rectify the Wright situation. That’s a big number; basically only leaves out only partisan Republicans who wouldn’t vote for Obama regardless. Is Rev. Wright suddenly a non-issue?

Some other highlights, kindly plucked from the data by Halperin at The Page:

–64% of Democrats say Clinton should remain in the race, including 42% of Obama’s supporters.

–26% of Clinton supporters say they’d favor McCain over Obama in a general election matchup, while 22% of Obama supporters say they’d take McCain over Clinton.

–39% have Clinton as the preferred choice of Obama’s running mate — with 59% being African Americans, 47% being Clinton supporters, 42% of women (vs. 34% of men)
