Two names continue to be the hottest among the Veep contenders on the Obama campaign’s list: John Edwards and Sam Nunn.
Both are former Senators with various invaluable experience they could bring to the Dem nominee - Edwards politically, Nunn in general gravitas and governmental wisdom. Both are also Caucasian men from Southern states who manage to appeal to the voter base Hillary Clinton now holds sway over.
Edwards fits in better with Obama’s general movement of relative youth and change, as well as being a primary force among the working class that HRC eventually won over. But both Edwards and Nunn bring enough to the table to be the clear frontrunners in the Dem Veepstakes.
Sphere: Related ContentFormer Sens. John Edwards and Sam Nunn are on a list of potential running mates for Democrat Barack Obama, a congresswoman said Thursday, one day after she met with the team Obama has reviewing possible candidates.
Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, D-Mich., who leads the Congressional Black Caucus, said members of her caucus asked her to forward the names of Edwards and Nunn when she met Wednesday with Obama’s vice presidential search team. The team, Caroline Kennedy and Eric Holder, indicated the two were on the list.
“We’ve been brainstorming in the Congressional Black Caucus. Former Senator Sam Nunn’s name has come up, as well as John Edwards’ name has come up among our CBC members. I reported that to them and they had both of those names on their list,” Kilpatrick said in an interview with The Associated Press.
One Response for "Edwards, Nunn on top of Obama Veep list"
Edwards projects youth, vibrancy, “I’ll fight for you” political speak, so he may have something there. Obama foregoing federal matching funds can use some of that money to help deflect both him and his running mate’s attacks by Repub and 527s.
