Hillary near top of list for Obama’s secretary of state
NBC’s Andrea Mitchell first reported that Obama transition insiders have confirmed to her that Hillary Clinton is near the top of the list of names being actively considered for secretary of state in the imminent Obama administration. The almighty Mitchell reported the break early this evening, and since then most other major networks and outlets have jumped on board with similar stories.

Two Obama advisers have told NBC News that Hillary Clinton is under consideration to be secretary of state. Would she be interested? Those who know Clinton say possibly. But her office says that any decisions about the transition are up to the president-elect and his team.
Clinton was seen taking a flight to Chicago today, but an adviser says it was on personal business. It is unknown whether she had any meeting or conversation with Obama while there.
There is no comment on this item from an Obama spokesperson and no official/public statements from anyone connected with the Obama transition team.
As you can see from the above piece, Hillary’s office is not denying that she is in Chicago , just that she isn’t in the Windy City for business related to the president-elect. HRC Spokesman Phillipe Reines emailed Politico’s Ben Smith that “any speculation” about Hillary at State “is really for President-Elect Obama’s transition team to address” - but did not shoot down the idea that Sen. Clinton would not be interested in the job.
This is definitely a story to watch closely in the coming days…

The Obama reply is to reward her with Secretary of State!??? May be a better fit would be Attorney General or SCJOTUS or make another attempt at Healthcare Reform.

Says Obama, it was just “politics”….you mean, all that campaigning by the candidates was JUST WORDS? I thought one of his biggest supporters Gov Patrick refuted that line of thinking, CLEARLY without any reservations by quoting the Constitution as NOT JUST WORDS…. “we hold these truths to be self-evident”.
Let’s see…. Obama himself ran on the platform of “CHANGE”, “CHANGE” meaning…………… Change the culture of Washington, Change the way we do politics, Change the Lobbyist influence….. Let’s see… Obama’s transition team has so far been made of up Who’s Who in the Clinton Administration and other lesser known political advisor hacks; the latest, writing up soft rules for Lobbyist-to-O’Administrators wanna be’s. Yes, you do need experience but there is a lot of it around the country that isn’t a part of Washington and aren’t a part of the revolving door of Lobbyists.
It will be very disappointing if Barack Obama selects Hillary Clinton for Secretary of State. After all her harsh criticism of him during the campaign she should not be rewarded. The world willrespect us more with someone like Bill Richardson in that capacity. John Kerry, Tom Daschle or anyone else would be qualified and deserving of that appointment. Is Pres. Elect Obama already forgetting the change he talked about? Hillary Clinton can best serve on the Supreme Court, Sec. of Health & Educ., Attorney General, etc.
