Palin To Iowa?
![]()
Only weeks before her resignation as governor of Alaska becomes official and she was supposed to exit politics “for good,” Sarah Palin’s political future could be brighter than ever as Iowa Republicans are actively seeking to land Palin as headliner for that key primary state’s top GOP fundraiser.
The Iowa Republican Party’s Ronald Reagan Dinner, to be held at an undetermined date later this year, is a key event for GOP presidential hopefuls to court voters for the first-in-the-nation caucuses in the Hawkeye State and has hosted many eventual primary contenders in recent years.
Party leaders sense an opportunity for their own event and for Palin’s political future now that she is no longer saddled with responsibility running the state of Alaska and are reaching out to Palin and her aides to set up a “huge event.”
Iowa Republican Party officials Wednesday said they are aggressively courting Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to headline the state GOP’s premier annual fundraising event.
And they have put a well-connected Des Moines woman in charge of trying to land the 2008 vice presidential nominee and popular party figure in the leadoff caucus state.
Aides to Palin did not immediately respond to Des Moines Register inquiries about whether the outgoing governor would consider the invitation to appear at the Ronald Reagan Dinner. The event has become a popular and high-profile stop for would-be presidential candidates.
But Becky Beach, a Des Moines woman with long personal ties to the Bush family and presidential campaigns, said she hopes her connections can improve the chances with the in-demand, outgoing governor. “Absolutely, I’m trying to get her here,” Beach said. “It would be a huge event.”
However, Palin has not yet responded to the Iowa GOP’s invite and the voice mailbox of her top communications aide is supposedly full, nit having been checked in days.
The cell phone voice mail for Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton on Wednesday was full and not accepting new messages.
Accepting an invitation to the top event of the Iowa GOP would send a clear signal that Palin is interested in 2012. Don’t expect the increasingly erratic conservative superstar to tip her hand just yet.
