“Unfiltered” Palin Launches Campaign-Inspired Book Tour

Sarah Palin appears at Grand Rapids book signing

Wednesday night saw Sarah Palin emerging from a massive tour bus, baby Trig in her arms, and briefly addressing a screaming crowd of hundreds as the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee launched her nationwide book tour at a Michigan book store. It was a scene that could very well be replayed in only a few short years.

The “Going Rogue” book tour kicked off in Grand Rapids with an event filled with throngs of loud Palin supporters coming from across that strong conservative core of Michigan, a calculated decision by Palin to ignore the “liberal elites” on he launch tour and focus exclusively on friendly conservative territory across the country.  The intensely pro-Palin crowd in Grand Rapids on Wednesday fit in perfectly with Palin’s highly partisan strategy.

While the former Governor of Alaska did spend time signing copies of her freshly released memoir, her arrival at the signing was startling for its allusions to a campaign-style event.   The bus, the frantic handlers, the limited opening remarks extolling the virtues of Michigan, the demands for a “tall skinny Mocha” from the Starbucks located inside the Barnes and Noble store - it all smacked of a trial run for 2012.

The crowd erupted in cheers and broke into chants of “Sarah! Sarah!” as Sarah Palin entered the Barnes & Nobles at Woodland Mall.

Before entering, Palin emerged from the bus wearing her trademark red blazer her and carrying her youngest child, Trig. After handing him off an aide, she told the crowd: “Thanks so much for showing up. Alaska and Michigan have so much in common with the hunting, fishing and hockey moms.”

“And I thank you so much for showing up so you can read my own words — unfiltered,” she said.

Inside the bookstore, Starbucks barristas are told by a frantic employee “This might be the most important drink you ever make!”

They were ordered to make a perfect “Tall Skinny Mocha” for Palin.
