  1. Where’s Dennis Kucinich? So much for positive politics. A decent guy without an angle to play can’t even get a hot button…

  2. Dear Editor,

After reading the following article by Steve Clemons ( http://www.huffingtonpost.com/steve-clemons/times-of-london-_b_77837.html ), and the referenced Times of London article (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article3080794.ece ), I was reminded anew of my disgust with our media coverage of the presidential campaign, which merely serves to encourage citizens to vote for sound bites and so-called momentum rather than for qualifications, performance and ability. To Mr. Clemons point, experience is a valid requirement, and the fact that it has been diminished by an excess of unsubstantiated rhetoric is appalling. It is one thing to talk about change, but an entirely different one to affect it; I am very concerned that some of the candidates, while bright and articulate, have naively underestimated the difficulty of this.

While our media spends most of its time engaging in irresponsible speculation, and over-analysis of sound bites (culled mostly from the “debates”), I cannot help but notice that the most thoughtful, pointed and objective commentary has come from overseas.

Please note that I am neither aligned with, nor have I contributed to the campaign of any individual candidate or political party.

  3. Dear PB:

The Presidents that I most admire demonstrated in their own personal way a moral courage which is needed today.

Moral Courage for me is not an ideology, nor is it one set thing but does account for compassion. In terms of our personal strength it unites our heart and mind.

These presidents did not use sound bites or catch phrases, but provided a substantive inspiration , which when not in fashion at the time, inspired the people.

This is the Guts that Washington had in crossing the Delaware and how he spoke of standards that we must have; how Kennedy spoke about Freedom of the press when, I believe, was aware of his imminent demise. His actual message to me was ‘fear not fear the truth’; and then how FDR lead a nation where not one American, nor world leader that he met, knew he suffered a wheel chair; and then how Abe said that ‘Right Makes Might’.

Every American deserves to see this in them self today. For our students, it is the fundamentals of self esteem that can make them the intellectual capital of our nation’s tomorrow.

In this manner, every US Citizen in their own right becomes empowered to participate in our nation’s leadership. This is what makes us Americans and how we can set expectations for our leadership to serve us.

    Sincerely Yours,

  4. In a political debate, what is the purpose of a moderator? Are they supposed to just keep time?
Is it their job to move the speakers along in a timely manner. Many thanks for an answer.
