We have our winners coming out of last night’s anti-climactic Iowa caucuses…but what does it really mean? Obama and Huckabee clearly wowed the uninvolved masses enough in the Hawkeye state for them to come out in droves and support these two non-traditional candidates in the face of mainstream heavyweights. Both Hillary and Romney dropped the […]

All outlets have declared Obama the Dem winner of the Iowa caucuses with a large majority of precincts reporting. The margin is destined to be large, with Hillary possibly a distant third place. No Edwards surge, but he should finish in second.

Holy Huckabee!!! NBC News has already called the Iowa race for Mike Huckabee with only 20% of IA Republican precincts reporting. His entrance/exit poll numbers and big early returns lead was apparently enough. Did we not call it here first about 10 minutes ago? Sorry…
Stunning result has huge implications beyond the ‘08 race and beyond […]

More news from the caucuses…
Talking to folks with the Huckabee campaign in Iowa 5 minutes ago, they are definitely confident and enthused with the early numbers showing Huck with anywhere from 11-20% lead over Romney in the race with at least 20-25% of the precincts reporting. Spokesman Eric Woolson wouldn’t divulge any real details (so […]

Some early items making news…
Details are still sketchy for the GOPers, but Democratic turnout is reported as being immense. Half are actually first-time caucus goers, which plays into Obama’s strategy. Remaines to be seen if this translates into sustained results.
Early returns actually have Edwards in front, slightly, with 34% to Hillary’s 32%. This is very […]

We talked with Dan Leistikow just now, the chief spokesman for Edwards in Iowa, and he was unwilling to give a specific answer when prodded on the rumblings about turnout (poor and otherwise) concerning the Edwards campaign. He noted that “…lots of supporters are turning out for Sen. Edwards” and that it’s “too early to […]

No caucus predictions from us tonight- we will not even attempt to nail down the exact winners - but it is a good time to give a last-minute update as to where the race stands with such little time left until real results appear.
Caucus day itself was basically mild, with just the usual hectic campaigning […]

With caucus day in Iowa upon us, it’s time to take a quick look at what to look for as the day rolls on and the actual caucusing begins this evening. Turnout is expected to be huge, with relatively good weather and major GOTV efforts propelling record crowds for the Dems (and Obama…). Close races […]

With the last Register poll before the caucuses showing Obama’s campaign sustained by independents and potential first-time caucus goers, the key question today is whether those groups will really come through for the Dem frontrunner in the race. The campaign fully realizes how much they rely on non-traditional Democratic voters in IA, and have been […]
